I've been washing cars all of my life ever since my first car: a 1973 Dodge Charger SE. My car collection grew to include daily drivers, restoration projects and a few rare muscle cars. Even though I took care of my cars I've made rookie mistakes... like the time I drove around town in direct sunlight totally covered with wax. Please don't ever do that.

For decades I've washed my cars using soaps, sponges, brushes and dried off using a chamois or cotton towels. Then I began heading to the coin-ops to wash, rinse and then towel dry. During one short stretch I got lazy and just wiped my dirty car using a wet towel. And I thought I was taking good care of my ride.

Little did I know I was doing everything wrong...

I found a car detailing coach who showed me the scratches and swirls plaguing most cars. He showed me how to properly wash, wax and polish my cars. I discovered that removing scratches and swirls can make an average car "POP".

With his advice I instructed the dealership to NOT detail my new car when she arrived. That tip paid off immensely. All of the new cars sitting on that same dealership lot have tons of swirl marks while mine barely has any. I was ecstatic.

Hence my passion for making cars shine...
